Creative work often starts with inspiration, but finding the right visual direction can be surprisingly time-consuming. While moodboards and image searches provide endless references, translating a concept or emotion into a color palette remains largely subjective.

Picular was born from a simple question: what color does people associate with a specific word?

What started as a three-day side project quickly evolved into a tool that helped designers, marketers, and creatives discover color inspiration through real-world visual data.

What started as a three-day side project quickly evolved into a tool that helped designers, marketers, and creatives discover color inspiration through real-world visual data.

The challenge was not building a feature-rich platform, but reducing an idea to its most essential form.

By combining image search data with a minimal interface, users could instantly explore the dominant colors associated with any keyword. The experience was intentionally lightweight, removing unnecessary friction and allowing curiosity to drive exploration.

From interaction design and interface design to branding and product direction, every decision was guided by a single principle: make inspiration feel effortless.

Without marketing spend or a formal launch strategy, Picular gained traction organically within the global creative community.

Within the first year, the platform had surpassed one million searches and reached peak traffic of more than 42,000 page views per day. What began as an experiment became a widely used creative tool, demonstrating how a focused idea, executed with clarity and craft, can resonate far beyond its original scope.

More importantly, the project reinforced a lesson that continues to shape my work today: the most successful digital products often emerge when complexity is removed rather than added.
